Biography

Stephen was born in 1760, the son of Thomas Gardner and Sarah Wilcox, who moved from Rhode Island to Brooklyn, Nova Scotia circa 1758^{[1] [2]}

On 26 Dec 1776, he married Rebecca Dexter, daughter of Ebenezer and Lydia (Rider) Dexter of Liverpool, Nova Scotia^{[3] [4] [5] [6]}, and they had children, including:

1. Stephen, born September 14, 1777^[6]
2. John (Capt), born October 5, 1779^[6]
3. Elisha, born March 27, 1728^[6] who married Rebecca Bearse
4. Rebecca, born September 1, 1784^[6], who married Enoch Freeman^[7]

7. Sarah, born June 23, 1792^[6], who married James Godfrey, and whose daughter Abigail married Charles McLeod

Stephen is mentioned in Simeon Perkins Diary as a ship owner and fisherman^[9]. He also appears in the Census^{[10] [11]}
