Catherine Garvey gives her year of birth as 1851 and place of birth as Newmarket, Co Clare, on Margaret Green's birth certificate. Place of birth given as Ralahine (possibly Rathlaheen) on her death certificate; her second cousin Michael Garvey came from Ralahine.
Catherine Green with her husband ran hotels in Mackay and Cairns. The first pub was the Navy Drill Hall in Cairns. Catherine later took over the Queens Hotel in Cairns for a number of years up until the time of her death. Newspaper articles on Trove attest to her catering skills.
According to her death certificate, Catherine Garvey arrived in Australia about 1869.
Catherine was buried in the Catholic section of the Old Pioneer Cemetery in McLeod Street, Cairns.
