Biography

Based on various Census records, Ellen was born about 1833 in Middlesex, London. She is the daughter of Richard Geary and Elizabeth Ashley.

1841 Census In 1841, Ellen is an 8 year old living in Edward St, Shoreditch, London, with her mother, Elizabeth, Grandmother Elizabeth Ashley, and brother William. ^[1]

1851 Census In 1851, Ellen, mother Elizabeth and brother William are still living in Edward St, Shoreditch. ^[2] Ellen is recorded as an unmarried House Servant.

1865 Marriage On the 14th of February 1865, Ellen married Francis James Windmill alias Long at St John the Baptist in Hoxton, Middlesex. Her father's name is recorded as Richard Geary, a Bricklayer. Witnesses to the marriage were William Geary, probably Ellen's brother, and Amy Ann Windmill, Francis' sister. ^[3]

1878 Death Ellen died on the 4th of February 1878 aged 43 according to a copy of her Death Certificate. Her address at the time was 108 Norwich Road, Ipswich. She died of paralysis after 77 days. Husband Francis James Windmill, Sergeant of the Coldstream Guards, was the informant.
