Biography
- Ellen was born in Mississippi in 1867. At four-years-old she was living in Atalla County with her parents and siblings. Her father was a farmer from Alabama with personal estate valued at 450 dollars. In 1880 her family was living in Midway, Yazoo, Mississippi. She married William Saxton in 1884 and they had been married for 16 years in 1900. Eight children were born during this marriage with all 8 still living. William Saxton's occupation was listed as farmer. He could not read or write but his wife and children could. He was renting a farm in 1900 and resided in Beat 4, Yazoo, Mississippi on Hire Ends The Work of The 7th Day Street (1900 United States Federal Census). In 1910 when the census was taken, Ellen was a widow. Two additional children had been born. Her ten children were still living. She lived with her children on a farm which was mortgaged. John Hogue resided there, a boarder. This is probably the same John Hogue that Ada married. In 1920 she was living on her farm with her youngest son, Claude. Marion Saxton was living nearby.
