Biography

The birth of John Goodman was registered in Droitwich in the second quarter of 1845^[1]

In 1851, 5 year old John is living in Constitution Hill with his aunt and uncle, Charlotte and Thomas Bakewell^[2]

In 1871, 25 year old unmarried John is shown at home with his parents, John and Elizabeth for the first time. He is working as an agricultural labourer^[3]

John was born about 1846 at Elmley Lovett, Worcestershire England. In 1851 he is shown residing at King'[s Head, Constitution Hill, Kidderminster, Worchestershire. He is age 5: Relation to Head of House: Nephew. Scholar. Living in the household of Thomas Bakewell (Publican) and wife Charlotte (Elizabeth Roger's sister?) and also George and Harriett Rogers. His death is unknown. No wife or children found.^[4]

Research Notes

In the 1851 census, 35 year old George Rogers, born in Worcestershire, is Thomas Bakewell's brother-in-law which implies he is Charlotte Bakewell's brother. Charlotte is 30 and born in Dodderhill, Worcestershire. Thomas is 40 and born in what appears to be "Saleton", but that does not exist. It is most likely Selston. Also in the house is 19 year old Harriet Rogers, Thomas's sister-in-law, born in Salwarpe, Worcestershire.
