Firmin (dit Paneau) was born about 1758. He first married Madeleine Poirier, the daughter of Jean Baptiste Poirier about 1780, probably in Malpec. He then married Martine Bernard on the 5th of February 1821 at the Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Mont-Carmel. She was the widow of Simon Arsenault. Firmin and his family was one of the first settlers in the Mont-Carmel area. Firmin and Madeleine had nine children: Joseph, Pierre, Cyprien, Amand Laurant, Firmin, Juliette, Marie, and Sophie.
