Biography

There was a Judith Hagger born 25th November 1621 in Wakefield, Yorkshire, England, daughter of Johanis Haggar,[1] (and possibly of Alice Walker),

She is possibly the Judith Haggar who married there in 1645 a Thomas Dodgson.[2]

They went on to have a child, John, baptized May 1652 in Wakefield, Yorkshire, England.

They never left England.

Research Notes

Disputed Presence in Virginia

There is no record or document to confirm that this Judith Hagger came to Virginia and married Jesse Dodson in Jamestown, Virginia on the 17th May 1645. The only source listed for Jesse and Judith Hagger's existence and marriage is from the U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900. This database states that it's original records come from: "This unique collection of records was extracted from a variety of sources including family group sheets and electronic databases. Originally, the information was derived from an array of materials including pedigree charts, family history articles, querie." [3]

Not the Wife of Jesse Dodson

Some popular genealogies show Judith Hagger as the wife of Jesse Dodson in the Virginia Colony. No evidence has been found for such a marriage.

Not the Ancestor of Charles Dodson Sr., North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia

Jesse Dodson and Judith are incorrectly listed as being the parents of Charles Dodson Sr., who was born about 1649, possibly in England or Virginia. There are no sources or documents that show a family relationship between Charles Dodson Sr., and Jesse Dodson and Judith Hagger. Jesse Dodson is listed as possibly being the son of one John Dods and his wife Jane of Jamestown Virginia. However, there are no records or documents that show that John Dods and his wife Jane had children. The records for John Dod's and wife Jane show that they have no children living in their household on the 24th of January 1624 when they are listed in "The Muster of the Inhabitant's of the neck-of-Land in the Corporation of Charles Cittie in Virginia. The Muster of John Dod's age 36 yeares in the Susan Constant Aprial 1607, Jane his wife aged 40 yeares." John Dod's and wife Jane are not listed as having any children in their household in 1624, when other individuals are listed with children, such as John Price, wife Ann, and Mary, a child aged 3 months.[4]

Judith is shown as having died about 1655 in Rappahannock County, Virginia. There are no records or documents that show Jesse and Judith Dodson ever lived or died in Rappahannock County, Virginia.

A previous version of this profile claimed, without source that she was the mother of the following; they have been detached:

Haggar-67 and Hagger-17 appear to represent the same person because: Represent the same woman

Hi I took a look at this from the Disproven Existence Project perspective. I don't think it has gone through the one week notice process on G2G to qualify for Disproven Existence. Persons who never existed cannot have parents, spouses or children, so the link to the husband needs to be replaced with a link in the narrative.

But more importantly, it appears there was a real person with this name, born in England, however, said real person never migrated to Virginia and never married (non-existent) Jesse Dodson. I think WikiTree policy would be that real people take precedence over fake people, so this profile needs to be re-written as that of Judith Hagger, born in England and never left England, and then the disputed marriage to Dodson written up under Research Notes. That would place Judith under the umbrella of the England Project, neither Disproven Existence nor Southern Colonies.

Since there is confusion about the parents and family, Project protection is probably a good idea, but it should be from the appropriate project that manages it. For convenience I'd leave Disproven Existence as PM temporarily, but I think this needs more research as a real English person who didn't leave home, and then England can manage it (if they wish to).

I concur with you, Jack. I. Don't think s JE should be disproven existence but she needs to be protected by a project so hard she doesn't return to being wife of the non existentJesse Dodson, mother of his children and immigrant to Virginia. Should England project take her?

Yes. But meanwhile she needs any more research that we can do. She was connected to Jesse Dodson and I delinked her.

see the comment I just posted to Jesse's profile. I don't think this profile meets requirments of Disputed Existence Project.
