On September 19, 1804, widow Elizabeth Hall requested that the court appoint Isaac Cutter of Charlestown as administrator of the estate of her husband Thomas Hall, Trader, of Cambridge, deceased intestate, which was granted. The estate was initially assessed at $5809.80 and submitted on October 22, 1804. [9]
Widow Elizabeth requested the court to assign her one third dower in her husband's real estate. On May 15, 1807, the court ordered a committee to assess Thomas' estate, and granted the widow her one thirds dower, during her natural life. On September 1, 1807, widow Elizabeth of West Cambridge and Isaac Cutter of Medford submitted to the court that Thomas' personal estate was insufficient to pay his debts and funeral charges, and Elizabeth was granted her apparel and personal items from the estate. The court later ordered the sale of Thomas' real estate. [9]
In 1808, Isaac Cutter submitted a petition on behalf of Simon Cooke, in the right of his wife Rebecca C. Cooke, for 1/8 part of the real estate, of Thomas Hall, deceased. On December 17, 1808, again the court assigned the committee to appraise the real estate of the deceased, not already set-off as the widow's dower, for distribution to the children. [9]
The real estate was assessed at $3275.00 and the committee first set off:
land to the two sons: Thomas Hall and William Hall
to the three daughters - Betsey Cook, Lydia Cutter and Rebecca Cook
On January 17, 1809, the court further ordered that the above legatees of real estate, to pay their mother and their surviving sisters from their shares: being mother Elizabeth Hall, sisters Anna and Alice. [9]
Widow Elizabeth Hall married second, Nehemiah Estabrook Jr. at Arlington, on September 29, 1811 [6], as his second wife. He was born May 3, 1762 at Lexington, Middlesex, Massachusetts, was the son of Nehemiah and Elizabeth (Winship) Estabrook. [10]
Elizabeth died at West Cambridge on December 12, 1822, aged 58. [11][12]
Widow Elizabeth Estabrook died intestate and on February 17, 1823, her children and heirs requested that Jacob Robinson be appointed estate administrator, being:
William Hall
Lavinia Hadley
Rebecca C. Cook
Benjamin C. Teel
She was found to be insolvent and her possessions were sold at public auction in order to pay debts. [13]
After her death, on March 4, 1823, Jacob Robinson, in the right of his wife Anne, petitioned the court regarding their 1/8 part in the estate of Thomas Hall Sr, that was part of the widow's dower, their mother now being deceased. [9]
The real estate in Elizabeth's dower rights was assessed at $1160.00 and committee recommended the following distributions in 1/8 shares of $145.00 :
