Biography

Charles Harrington JR and Patience Braswell married in NC, but didn't stay, they quickly started a migration movement (with related family members with surnames MUSE, RUTHERFORD, BRASWELL, LAMAR, SEALEY (aka Seales), LINCECUM (aka Limpscomb and other spellings) and others that left NC headed to SC then on into GA before 1800. While some of the migrating surnames stayed in SC and then even more stayed in Georgia once they got there, Charles Harrington JR and his wife Patience Braswell left for the Kentucky/Tennessee boarder with John Harrington just prior to 1800 having left Georgia for the Kentucky/Tennessee border around 1795. John Harrington's records reflect the date and place of this migration (if the information is not yet posted, I will post it soon).

NOTE: ALL question marks (?) will be replaced by the sourced information. I took photographs of abstracted deeds for MYSELF only. At this time I am posting the information, however I must go back and look up the book sources and will post as soon as time permits. For now, there is only one set of published Franklin county Georgia Deeds in book form (or the microfilm), so anyone who has access to the books/microfilm knows the source. ALL FRANKLIN COUNTY GA ORIGINAL DEED BOOKS and PROBATE records prior to 1940 were donated to the Georgia Archives and currently kept in their vault library room. Anyone wishing to do Genealogy in Franklin County Georgia should NOT go to the Franklin county Georgia courthouse as the older records are no longer there. The Georgia Archives in Morrow Georgia is the only place to find the original materials at this time (other than microfilm copies which is what the one set of published books are transcribed/abstracted from.

Marriage

Charles Harrington and Patience Braysdale. Fayette Dist, Edgecombe, North Carolina.[1]

  • "The Georgia Genealogy Magazine" by Rev. Silas Emmett Lucas Jr. and Volunteers, issue 3 Vol. #28 transcripts from "The Augusta Chronical & Gazette" date Issue date November 23, 1793...Washington county Georgia Tax Defaulters printed in weekly newspaper (issue date 11-23-1973): Captain Bonner's District: Charles Herrington: NOTE no other Charles Harrington has ever been found in this area of GA and it's 'assumed' he either traded this land or never made improvements on the land and it reverted back to the state, thus Charles Harrington likely never lived physically in Washington county GA.
  • Franklin County Georgia Deed Book ? Page 25: Franklin County Georgia Jan. 18, 1819 Rec. 3 April 1820, from John Forsythe as attorney for Daniel Reamshart of Savannah, to George Stovall Sr. of Franklin County in consideration of $220, conveys 200 acres in Franklin co on waters of Broad River, Adj: Charles Harrington, John Harrington and John Darden. Wit: James O'Graddy, Samuel Sewell, J.P. NOTE: this deed reflects a time period for the Harringtons of 'WHEN' they 'WERE' in Georgia as 'ADJACENT LAND OWNERS' as the deed is reflecting original land owners only, because in 1819 the Harrington's were on the Kentucky/Tennesse border before 1800 and I believe Charles Harrington is deceased by 1819 anyway. (NOTE: see John and Thomas Harrington profiles for when they left Union SC for Franklin co GA).
