Biography

Eliza Harris was born about 1840. She was a daughter of Joseph Harris and Ann King.

She married Reuben Lax in 1863 in St. Peter's Parish Coventry, Warwickshire.^[1] They had eight children:

• Walter Lax (1863-67)
• Ephraim Lax (1864-65)
• Annie Jane Lax (1867–1957) married surname Rowley
• Mary Anne Lax (1869–1955) married surname Millar
• Reuben Lax (1871–1942)
• Eliza Lax (1873-74)
• Rebecca Lax (1874-)
• William Henry Lax (1876-76)
• George Lax (1878-79) NOTE this has to go; born after the death of Reuben Lax. George is registered under Eliza's maiden name HARRIS

Eliza (Harris) Lax Jackson migrated from England to Queensland.

The family migrated to Queensland, Australia; sailing in the ship "Lobelia" they arrived in Brisbane in July 1865, with two children named:-Walter and Ephraim; both died after arrival in Queensland. ^[2]

Eliza continued to have children after the death of her husband Reuben, the first birth questioned was William Henry Lax who died four months after Reuben; it is assumed he was Reuben's son the birth and death record for William is registered as Lax. Parent's names Reuben Lax and Eliza Harris.

The following child George was registered at birth and death as Lax with parent's names as Reuben Lax and Eliza Harris; now that is impossible because Reuben died September 1875; so he was definitely not the father of George; whose surname should be Harris.

Flora was buried with her brother George and her birth and death registrations are under the name Harris. However, the burial name for her is Lax not Harris.

After living in widowhood for 35 years, Eliza married a second time, to William Jackson in 1910 in Brisbane.^[3]

She passed away on 22nd October 1911 in Brisbane^[4] and was buried in Brisbane General Cemetery, Portion 10 Section 8 Plot 11.
