Biography

Elizabeth Harris is the daughter of William Harris and Edith Bligh.

ELIZABETH HARRIS, b. say 1650; d. Middletown 7 Oct. 1684; m. there 20 June 1670 EDWARD1 FOSTER,[61] b. Kingsware, Devon, ca. 1644,[62] d. Guilford, Conn., 14 June 1712,[63] son of John Foster of Kingsware. Edward m. 15 Nov. 1710 Ann Hills,[64] but he apparently had an intermediate wife after Elizabeth, as he is recorded in Middletown as father of Tamsen and John Foster b. 26 Aug. 1688 and 10 Feb. 1691/2.[65] A mariner, Foster resided in Marblehead, Mass., in Middletown, and in Guilford. In April 1716, in response to a petition, the Middletown constable was ordered to “give notice unto Mary Gilbert, Hannah Whitmore, & Patience Marcum all of Middletown Widows; and Thomas Foster, Edward Foster, Joseph Rockwell and Elizabeth his wife, [and] Robert Collins and Mary his wife all of sd Middletown,” to appear at the next General Court at Hartford “to answer to the petition of John Coite and Solomon Coite of New London, and Joseph Coite of Plainfield.”[66] Children of Edward and Elizabeth3 (Harris) Foster, first five recorded in Middletown:[67]

  2. Elizabeth Foster, b. 7 May 1673.
  3. Thomas Foster, b. June 1675.
  4. Susanna Foster, b. 18 Sept. 1679; d. Middletown 14 Nov. 1713.
  5. Edward Foster, b. 10 Jan. 1681[/2?].
  6. Mary Foster, b. say 1684.[68]

A merge has been proposed. These are the same person, but the husband is definitely Edward Foster, not Thomas, unless there is some credible documentation of an additional marriage to a Thomas Foster. Since there is no documentation on this profile, it is hard to determine. Thank you.
