From The Early Records of the Town of Providence, Volume XX, p. 453 To all before whome this deede of Gift shallcome, Greeteing: KNOW Yee: That I John Hawkings of Providence in ye Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations in New England. Husbandman. Do give to my daughter Elizabeth Smith the wife of Joseph smith forty acres of land on ye West side of the Seven mile line, butted and bounded as followeth. (viz) at the southeast corner a maple tree, thence running northwardly to a Red Oake tree, thence northwestwardly to a crooked white oak, thence to a heape of stones & thence westwardly to a black oake tree being the northwest corner: and the southwest corner of Thomas Steers land & runneth southwardly to a black oake being the Southwest corner & thence eastwardly to ye aforesaid Maple, with a quarter of a right of comonage. Which is to lay out: I do with the consent of my wife and good considerations me hereunto Moveing. Do give make over and by these presents do give Rattifie & Confirme unto my daughter Elizabeth Smith all the above mentioned premises with my Right & Title to the same belonging, from me my Heirs Executors & Administrators forever. To have & to hold the same as a free & voluntary gift with all the Privelidges without lett or hindrance: Only this I the said John Hawkings do bind her my Daughter Elizabeth Smith that Shee shall not sell nor dispose of the same during my life & afterwards to do according to her discression.

In witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seale this Twenty Eight Day of March One Thousand Seven Hundred & Eleven & in ye Tenth yeare of ye Reign of our Sovereigne Lady Anne Queene, defender of ye faith: John Hawkins L.S.
