Biography

James was born at Craigthornhill Farm, Glassford, Lanarkshire on 10th March 1863. He was the son of William Henderson and Anne Semple. ^[1]

In 1871 James was 8 years old and living at Meadownay in the parish of Maybole, Ayrshire with his parents and siblings, Sarah , Lilias, William and Anne and employees, James McCormick, Bella (Mc)Queen and George Murray. ^[2]

In 1881 James was 18 years old and living at Meadownay in the parish of Maybole, Ayrshire with his parents and siblings, Sarah, Lilias, William and Anne, and servants Ellen McDonald and David Gibson. ^[3]

On 10th December 1890, James married next door neighbour Mary Ann Nielson Shaw at Garryhorn, Maybole. ^[4]. Mary Ann was the sister of Walter Shaw who married James' sister Lilias Burns Henderson.

In 1891 James was 28 years old and farming his father's farm at Meadownay, Maybole. He lived there with his wife Mary, daughter Evelyn, His sister Anne and servants Andrew Jess, Thomas Houston, Jessie Surgenson and Isabella D Davidson. ^[5]

In 1901 James was 38 years old. On his father's death he had moved from Meadownay to his father's farm at High Milton, Maybole. He lived there with his wife Mary, children Ethel, Edith, William, John and Evelyn and servants James Herbertson, Jessie Dunlop and Mary Dimond. ^[6]

James died on 1st March 1937 at Knockgerran in the parish of Dailly, Ayrshire. ^[7]
