Biography
William was born before 1760, based on the 1840 census of Noble Township, Shelby County, Indiana, where he is listed as age 80-90.
William Hendrickson sold land to his daughter Jane in 1840 (Deed ___, p 634). William last appears on the 1842 tax list of Shelby County. DMN
Harrodsburg in Mercer Co., Kentucky was founded in 1774 and is the oldest permanent English establishment west of the Allegheny Mountains. William Hendrickson is one of the very early Kentucky settlers.
Marriage to Nancy Moore. Although previous researchers had assumed the family came from Amherst County, Virginia, there are no records for this Hendrickson or Moore family in that county. The name of William's wife can be verified by two deeds in Mercer County--where William and Nancy, his wife, sell land, and from the 1841 LDS Baptisms by Proxy performed by Simeon Hendrickson, who names his mother as Nancy. Emigration: BEF. 1782. Moved To Kentucky. This estimate is a bit early. The earliest record for the Hendricksons in Kentucky, so far uncovered, is the 1787 administration for John Hendrickson, Nelson County. Also, the same year, Jacob, Samuel, and John are named in the insolvent/removed lists for Mercer County. The names of our Hendrickson men can be found on the tax lists of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, prior to 1787.DMN
