I have been researching my family history for more than twenty years. My earliest known HILES ancestor is John ILES bn.1770 at Sturton Le Steeple, Nottinghamshire UK. His parents were John ILES born c. 1736 & Prudence PARKER 1731-1775. They had at least six other children. The descendants of the ILES/ISLES/HILES family are currently living in Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire UK, and some in Canada & USA. There are parish records of ILES living in Sturton-Le-Steeple, Nottinghamshire in 1635, but I have not been able to connect them to the John ILES born at Sturton in 1736.
I took the FTDNA BigY 700 test in 2019, and my Haplogroup is FGC10120. and my Terminal SNP is FGC10118. My terminal SNP and strong Y-STR matches place me firmly in the Campbell group 30 in the FTDNA CAMPBELL project. My Most recent common ancestors (MRCA) of FGC10120 are from around 1350, mostly named CAMPBELL.
I am assuming the change of name from CAMPBELL to ILES/HILES is an NPE. Hopeing further BigY tests in the future may clarify the situation.
