Biography

Dirk Hooglant

Title

Title: Mariner
Dirk Hooglant, a mariner, at sea, was reported missing, unheard from for over a year on Sep 06, 1693,[1]. He apparently eventually returned home, as he baptised a child in 1698 in New York[2]. His brother's apparently were also mariners. "Richard Hoogland, of New York, mariner," purchased and doubtless settled on 40 acres of land at Woodbridge, New Jersey. The son Martin Hooglandt (b. 1667) is also mentioned as a mariner. In Carpenter's "Hoagland Family,".

Hoogland-269 and Hooglant-1 appear to represent the same person because: I removed the false son, and set him for merge. Just ignore the Janse patronym here, and this should be fine to just be merged away now into the NNS PPP. Thanks!

Hoogland-269 and Hooglant-1 are not ready to be merged because: This record is a complete convergence of the two Dirck Hoaglands. Currently, the son Jacobus Jansen Hoagland matches up with [Hoagland-148], who is the grandson of the Dirck Jansen Hoogland from Utrecht, [Hoogland-8], who is married to [Fedden-2], a connection that was edited from this record to make it match up with Dirck Christoffels records.

Merging these records would create more confusion by making this new son of Dirck Christoffels, Jacobus Jansen, appear to also be the grandson of the unrelated Dirck Jansen Hoagland from Utrecht.

Hoogland-269 and Hooglant-1 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest paternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge into the NNS PPP. No tree conflicts. The alternate marriage place is in Woodbridge, Middlesex, New Jersey, USA. Thanks!

Hi Mike, I agree with Carrie, let's keep it Unmerged Match while we figure it out.

The Ancestry source tree in the recently imported match is suspect, along with the faulty marriage date, the German birth and Jansen patronym with no jan father attached.

Who knows where all this clutter stuff comes from. But it does look like they are intended to represent the same person. And we need to clear out those recent bad imports through merging, to reduce the clutter.

Hello, I realize that all of the dates are off but this is the result of sorting out the two New Netherland Dirck Hoogland's (the other one being Hoogland-8) that have been conflated and mixed and matched on other sites' incoming gedcoms. Hoogland-270 was put here because of his wife, who shares very similar information with Kip-32. The only source on that profile is ancestry.com. Would you mind leaving it as an unmerged match until the New Netherland Settlers project can review it please?

I'm detaching Annetje Fedden-3 to match her with Fedden-2 as that marriage is impossible by date and is the result of conflation with an entirely different Dirck Hoogland. If it stays connected as is, it has the potential of really confusing someone.
