Johan Friederich was the son of Christian Hornbacher and Christina Haug of Cresbach.[1][2][3] He was confirmed in 1762.[4]
Johann Friedrich was a laborer in Cresbach.[5] He first married Barbra Walz: "18 Feb 1773 in Cresbach. Friedrich Hornbacher (son of the deceased daylabourer Christian Hornbacher from Cresbach) with Barbara (daughter of the deceased farmer Jacob Walz from Bösingen)."[6][7] They had eight children together; she died one month after their last child was born. Seven months later, on 24 Jun 1788 , he married Eva Ziefle. Only four of his fifteen children survived childhood.[5]
