Biography

Ephraim HOUGH, III, (3 Oct 1789 Wallingford, Connecticut - 17 Jan 1876 Oxford, Georgia) was the son of Ephraim and Lydia (Alling) Hough of Connecticut.

On 16 Jul 1816 in CT he married Jerusha SANFORD (30 Jan 1793 CT 16 Jul 1870 NC), dau of Abel and Deborah (SPERRY) SANFORD of Wallingford.

Ephraim and his brother James moved to NC about 1818.

Children:

1. Alveron Sanford (20 May 1817 - 18 Oct 1890 GA) md (1) Sarah A. BURCH and (2) Mary F. BROWN. His ch incl Sanford Augustus; Emma Virginia; James Edwin; Sylvester; William; Carrie; and Mary.
2. Oliver Perry (3 Oct 1818 NC - 10 Jan 1859) md Lucinda R. FROST, and ch were Charles Luther and Laura Sanford.
3. Harriet Emily (19 Feb 1820 NC - Aug 1843 NC) md Brinson DARNALL and lived in NC.
4. Dr. James Edwin (26 Oct 1821 NC - May 1893 Manchester, TN) md (1) Emily J. ??? and (2) Emily Ann HILL, a cousin of his first wife. Ch were Thomas Ephraim; Edwin Sylvester; Rufus Perry; and Annie Morgan.
5. Sylvira Caroline (11 Mar 1823 NC - 3 Sep ???) md John H. NICKOLSON and lived in NC.
6. Dr. Sylvester Alling (4 Dec 1825 Hamptonville, NC - 13 Apr 1873 Atlanta, GA) md Mary Jane KIRBY. Ch were Alveron Sanford; Edmund Kirby; and Mary Lenora.
