The Hoyt-Haight Genealogy By Jared L. Olar June 2008

Deacon ZERUBBABEL HOYT, son of Walter Hoyt; born circa 1652in Windsor, Hartford County, CT, died before 25 Jan. 1738/39 at Clapboard Hill, Norwalk, CT. It is uncertain which of Walter Hoyt's wives was the mother of Zerubbabel. He may have been the son of Walter's first wife whose name is unknown, in which case he would have been born circa 1649 in Windsor; but he could likely have been the son of Walter's second wife Rhoda (which would account for Zerubbabel naming a daughter Rhoda), in which case he would have been born circa 1652 in Norwalk. Zerubbabel married at least twice and possibly three times. The name of his first wife (or first two wives?) is unknown, but it could have been Hannah, as Zerubbabel named one of his daughters Hannah (our ancestress). An early history of Norwalk is apparently the source of the widespread belief that Zerubbabel's first wife was Hannah Knapp, but no source is cited for that claim and there is no actual evidence to support it. Hannah Knapp is last mentioned in her father's will on 15 April 1670, at which time she was still unmarried. Zerubbabel's first wife was probably born in the early 1650's, and they probably married in the early 1670's. Zerubbabel's second (or third?) wife, whom he apparently married in Norwalk about May 1720, was MEHITABEL ROCKWELL, widow of John Keeler and daughter of John and Elizabeth Rockwell. Zerubbabel and Mehitabel had no children together. All six of Zerubbabel's children were born in Norwalk of his first marriage (or first two marriages). Some of Mehitabel's Keeler children intermarried with the children and grandchildren of their stepfather Zerubbabel. Those were the first of numerous tangled intermarriages among the Connecticut families of Hoyt/Haight, Whitney, Keeler, Rockwell, Benedict, and Riggs.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Zerubabbel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Zerubabbel:

Hoyt-462 and Hoyt-33 appear to represent the same person because: This is a duplicate person

Hoyt-462 and Hoyt-33 do not represent the same person because: They have different birth dates, parents, children. They don’t appear to be duplicates. They seem to be two individuals.

New England marriages prior to 1700 does show Zerubbabel and Hannah marrying. If the death date on Hannah is correct then he could not have married Sarah Beckwith mentioned in the bio two years after he married Hannah. Jacobus doesn't give a name for Hannah, but he only lists two marriages with the 2nd one being Mehitable.

I agree. The text in this profile is a scramble of dates not in order. Even if there was a marriage to Sarah Beckwith, Sarah would not be listed as first wife by the shear empirical evidence of the dates the author supplied. In no universe is 1675 before 1673.

This profile in general needs a deep review. As to the parentage of at least Caleb, the DNA test that confirms Hannah Knapp's parentage is through her descendant from her son Caleb. There is no other way Caleb's 8th great grandson could have matched the other Knapp ancestors without his mother being Hannah Knapp. This match was triangulated and solid.

As Daniel was born before Caleb, I tend to believe Hannah was his mother, too. I, however, cannot use my DNA to test this as I am also the 9th great grandchild of Mehitable Rockwell Hoyt from her first marriage to John Keeler, in addition to being a 9th great grandchild of Zerubbabel and Hannah.

Can someone clean this up?

Too long a profile, needs, to be cleaned-up and shortened.
Hoyt-2019 and Hoyt-33 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest paternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge. No tree conflicts. Thanks!

With a birthdate of 1690, he did not marry Sarah Beckwith in 1670

This birth date does not work for dates of children's births.
