Biography

1776 Project
Isaac Hudson served with North Carolina during the American Revolution.

Isaac is mentioned in the published biography of his grandson, Slade Hudson. Both the 1830 and 1840 Census for Lincoln County Missouri list an Isaac Hudson born between 1760 and 1770. If he served during the American Revolution as described he was probably born closer to 1760.

Isaac Hudson b. 19 Sep 1763 in Bute Co., NC, d. 7 Aug 1848 in Lincoln Co., MO. He married Mary (Polly) Dolly Shepherd .

From "A History of the Pioneer Families of Missouri", page 272 "Hudson. — John Hudson and his wife, who was a Miss Allen, lived in North Carolina. They had six sons — Isaac, Drury, Thomas, William, John, and Jesse. Drury and Isaac were in the revolutionary war. The latter [Isaac] settled in Georgia, where he married Polly Shipper. He afterward removed to South Carolina, and from thence, to Kentucky, and in 1818 he came to Missouri. The names of his [Isaac's] children were — Elizabeth, Nancy, Sally, John, Thomas, William, and Charles. Elizabeth married Lemuel Cox.

  • Nancy married Garrett Ingram.
  • Sally married James Owings.
  • John was married three times ; first to Lucinda Morris, of Kentucky; second to Nancy Holloway, and third to a widow lady named Carolina W. King.
  • Thomas married Polly Hammond, and settled in Pike county.
  • Charles and William married sisters [Sittons], and settled in Lincoln county.
  • William's first wife died, and he afterward married Sarah Hamlet."

Do you have a copy of Isaac's will? I'm told by the Hudson Family Association that one of my Hudson relatives is a 36/36 match to Isaac. We descend from James Hudson, b ca 1785 NC and died 1853 AR. James was in Graves Co., KY, and Dickson Co., TN, before coming to AR.

Thanks, Rodney Bowers

Hudson-5000 and Hudson-9760 appear to represent the same person because: The link to a google books reference in my Isaac Hudson profile describes all of his dad John's children that clearly match the same family.
