Biography

Rebecca Ellen (or Ella) Huff was born in 1844 in Indiana, daughter of Elijah Huff and Mary Huff.

05 September 1850, Rebecca E. Huff, aged 5, b. IN lived Centre Twp., Hendricks Co., Indiana with her parents and siblings. Her father, Elijah, aged 47 was a farmer. Also in the household, her mother, Mary-48, born in VA and siblings: William-17, born in OH; Susanna-11, b. Indiana; Mary J-7, b. Indiana; Rebecca E. 5, b. Indiana and Deborah Huff-3, b. Indiana.

05 June 1860--Rebecca Huff was 14 years old. Her father, indexed as "Elizah" Huff, was 55 and a farmer. He and her mother, Mary-56, POB given as OH, lived in Center Twp. Children in the home were born in IN: Susan-18; Mary-16; "Rebacca" Huff-14; Deborah-12 and Richard-9.

Rebecca E Huff and Jasper H. McCall were married 30 Jan 1867 in Hendricks Co., Indiana, by W. R. Jewell, Pastor of the Christian Church in Danville. The ceremony was held 13 days after Rebecca's sister and Jasper's brother were wed.

27 July 1870--McCall family in Middle Twp., Hendricks Co.--P.O. Pittsboro. Info as of 01 June: Jasper-27, a farmer, and Ellen-25 (Rebecca indexed by her middle name) and children: Cora-2, "Ulissus"-1 and Theodore McCall, aged 3 mos., born in March.

01 March 1875 Kansas State Census-- Jasper-33, a farmer, and R. E. McCall-30 lived in Shawnee, Johnson Co., Kansas,. Also in the home was Theodore McCall, aged 4. All three had been born in Indiana and had come from Indiana to KS via Nebraska. Wm. D. McCall, aged 5 mos, was a recent addition to their family and had been born in Kansas. The children, Cora and Ulysses were no longer with them.

18 June 1880--Rebecca E. McCall was 34 years old, and lived with her husband, Jasper -37, a farmer in Shawnee, Kansas. Children: Theodore-10, b. IN; William D-5, b. KS; Mary A-4, b. KS and Emma L, aged 1, also born in KS.

Rebecca E. McCall sued for divorce against Jasper H. McCall, effective 07 July 1893 in Topeka, KS. ^[1]

02 June 1900--Rebecca E. McCall, aged 55, was head of household at 1213 E. 5th St. in Precinct 4 Topeka city Ward 2, Shawnee Co., Kansas. She was listed as "Widowed," although her husband was still living and in his own household in Topeka. Rebecca had given birth to 7 children/5 still living. Her DOB was given as NOV 1844 in IN. POB for her father was OH and mother, PA.

25 April 1910--She was 65 and lived at 512 Linn St., Topeka, KS in the household of her son, Oscar, aged 26. He was single and a laborer for a gas co.

1915 Kansas State Census, Rebecca is found in two census records. In one, she is living in the hh of her son John (Oscar) who was 31 years old. Also in the home is William (Daniel)-40. They resided in Soldier Twp., Shawnee, Co., Kansas. Her sons both worked as laborers.

01 March 1915 Kansas State Census--Rebecca, aged 70, lived at 1019 Jackson St. in Topeka. Head of household was her son-in-law Lewis M. Plank, a 42 year-old publisher, who was married to Rebecca's daughter, Emma L.-35. Also in the home was their daughter, Verna P-2.

8 & 9 January 1920--She was 75 years old and lived in the same house with the same family members. Her son-in-law's occupation was printer/state plant.

Rebecca Ellen (Huff) McCall passed away at 7 AM 23 April 1921, at the age of 76, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. M. Plank, 1019 Jackson St., Topeka, KS. ^[2] BURIAL Topeka Cemetery Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas

Rebecca was born in 1844. She was the daughter of Elijah Hough and Mary Payne. She passed away in 1921.
