Robert Hunter wasn't living in the family home at the time of the 1841 Census and was likely living and working elsewhere in the area. Of 9 possibilities a Census record sourced found a Robert Hunter aged 14 working in Brechin as a Agricultural Labourer for Stewart Dundass. [1]
He was 15 when he boarded the barque 'New Zealand' with his family and arrived in Nelson in November 1842. [2]
Robert's father was to die in 1853 and his mother in 1861.
