During the Revolutionary War, John suffered depredation at the hands of the British soldiers in Goochland County, VA.

Sometime after March 1781 he relocated his family to Surry County, North Carolina, USA.

John Hutchins married secondly to Jennie Braswell and their 6 children were all born in North Carolina.

His children were named in his last Will of 1824. [3]

He died in August 1825 in Elkin, Surry County, North Carolina, USA.
