Biography

Mary was born in 1754.[1]

She was married to Joseph Thompson who died in 1810 in Pendleton district, South Carolina.[2][3]

They are living in Laurens County, South Carolina in 1790[4] and have moved to Pendleton district by 1800.[5]

After Joseph's death, Mary appears widowed as head of household on the 1820 census of Pendleton County, South Carolina, with her daughter Mary and Rebecca still at home with her.[6]

Mary then apparently is living with Rebecca and her husband John Hunnicutt on the 1830 census of Anderson County, South Carolina as their household indicates the following household members:

males)-5:2 ; 10-15:2 ; 50-50:1
females)-5:1 ; 5-10:3 ; 15-20:2 ; 30-40:1 70-80:1

The female in her 70s would be born between 1750 & 1760 and is likely Mary.[7] In 1840 it appears she is likely living in the household of her widowed daughter Nancy in Carroll County, Georgia[8] and by 1850 she had relocated to Alabama and was once again living with her daughter Rebecca's family,[9] in the 28th District of Benton County, Alabama, where Mary died in January of 1850 at the age of 95.[1]

Mary is buried in Camp Ground United Methodist Church Cemetery, in Cleburne County, Alabama, most likely in or near the plot of John Hunnicutt who is also buried there as she was living with John and her daughter Rebecca, his wife in Alabama.[10]

I am a descendant of Mary Jolly and Joseph Thompson through their son, Randsom/Ransom Thompson. I am researching DNA matches as well as extended family lines for them. I have over 1000 Thompsons in my tree. I have found the father and possibly the mother of Mary Jolly. She was born about 1754 in the 96th District, South Carolina. Her father was Joseph Jolly, born about 1718 and died 1788 in the 96th District. I have access to the DNA matches on ancestry.com and Gedmatch #'s of about 14 descendants of Ransom Thompson and of a descendant of Joseph Robert Thompson as well as 2 descendants of Joseph Jolly. We all share DNA. Please contact me at [email address removed] Linda Richards
