Biography

Nancy was born about 1783 in South Carolina[1][2] to Joseph Thompson and Mary Jolly.[3][4][5][6][7]

She first married Isham Green[3][8] and the couple had the following known children:

  1. Mary "Polly" Green[8]
  2. Lemuel Green [8]
  3. Nancy Green[8]
  4. Elizabeth "Betsy" Green[8]
  5. Rebecca Green[8]

Isham died in 1808 in Anderson County, South Carolina[8][6]

Nancy appears on the 1810 census of Pendleton County, South Carolina with the following household members:

males)-10:1
females)-10:4 ; 45+1.[6][9]

She remarried 24 Dec 1812 in Pendleton County, South Carolina to Lodawick Orr.[10]

Lodawick died 18 May 1826 in Pendleton County, South Carolina.[10]

The 1830 census of Anderson County, South Carolina shows Nancy with the following household members:

no males
females)10-15:2 ; 15-20:1 ; 40-50:1.
no slaves.[4]

By 1840 she has relocated to Carroll County, Georgia where it appears likely that her mother was living in her household with her.[11]

According to her pension packet, Nancy was living in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama in 1851, in Carroll County, Georgia in 1855 and in Cleburne County, Alabama (Edwardsville P.O.) in 1874.[10]

Nancy was living next door to Ransom Thompson on the 1870 census in Edwardsville, Cleburne County, Alabama.[12][2]

Nancy died in Cleburne County, Alabama in March of 1880 of general debility.[1] The mortality schedule of 1880 states she had been living in Cleburne County 50 years and that she and both her parents were born in South Carolina.[1]
