Biography

James Keith was born on 6 November 1696, in Bridgewater, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony. His parents were James and Mary (Thayer) Keith.[1][2]

James and Comfort Thayer, daughter of Isaac and Mercy (Rockwood) Thayer, were married on 17 May 1722, in Uxbridge, Suffolk (Worcester after 1731), Massachusetts Bay Colony.[3][4]

James and Comfort had children, all born in Uxbridge except Noah, who was born in Mendon:[5]

  1. Noah (1723 -1800)[6], married Deborah Taft
  2. Susanna (1727)[7], married Nathaniel Fish
  3. Rachel (1), (1728-1740)[8]
  4. Abigail (1730)[9], married John Bolster
  5. Kezia (1731-1740)[10]
  6. James (1) (1733/4-1735)[11]
  7. Silance (1734/5-1740)[12]
  8. Nathan (1737)[13], married Abigail Albee, then Phebe (White) Wheelock
  9. James (2) (1740)[14], married Lydia Brown
  10. Comfort (1742/3)[15], married Deborah Nelson
  11. Rachel (2), (1745/6) [16], married Joseph Rist

Rachel, Kezia, and Silance died within weeks of one another, so the Keith home must have suffered a wave of sickness in April-May 1740.

James died on 16 November 1770, in Uxbridge. His widow Comfort died there on 22 August 1775.[17]

James died testate. His probate inventory indicates that he was a farmer. In his will he gives the homestead to his wife, and bequeaths to sons Noah, Nathan, and James; to his grandson Ephraim Taft; to granddaughters Elizabeth Thomson, Comfort Fish, and Abigail Fish; to daughters Abigail Bolster and Rachel Rift.[18]

  • Note: The parents of granddaughter Elizabeth Tompson have not been identified.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

I have no clue as to where “Francis” and Edward” came from. I found as many sources as I could, and neither of these names showed up.
What's the source of Edward and Francis are listed as middle, alternate names?

Shown with his brother as father.

I will correct this.

Hi, Lynden!

It looks like the profile that is connected as his father may be a duplicate. They have the same birthday, but the date and place of death are not the same. Any ideas??

Thanks!

Julie
