Leonard Kingston has English ancestors.

Leonard was born 1 October 1885 at Akaroa, New Zealand. He was the son of Samuel Henry Kingston and Mary Wilson Newbiggin. [1] [2]

On 7 October 1907 at the registry office in Auckland, New Zealand, he married Frances Mary Kinzett; [2] [3] they divorced in about 1928. [4]

In 1929 he married Celia Mabel Young. [5] They divorced in about 1951.

He served in both the First and Second World Wars, attaining the rank of Regimental Sergeant-Major. [6]

He passed away 21 October 1964 age 79 and is buried at Papatoetoe Cemetery. [7] [8]

  • Parents: Samuel Henry Kingston(52), Mary Kingston(50), both born at Akaroa.
  • Married Frances Kinzett (spinster) on 7.10.07 at Auckland; child Basil Leonard Samuel born 15.5.09 at Wellington.
  • Enlisted in the Royal NZ Artillery at Akaroa on 15 Feb 1915. Height 6'2", weight 179lb. Scar left leg below knee.
  • Dark complexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair.
  • Discharged 5 June 1921 with rank Corporal Field Artillery at Devenport. Postal address c/o Mr. Brown, Hill Street, Paeroa.
  • WW2 attestation - NOK was Cecilia Mabel (wife), 34 Bay Rd, St. Heliers Bay, Auckland. Changed 7/2/58 to D.G. Wright, Oakleigh RD 1 Whangarei.
  • Leonard passed away 21 Oct 1964 at Auckland; next to kin Mrs. D. G. Wright, 19 Kimpton Rd, Papatoetoe.
  • The same file also contains information about Private Allan Alfred Kinzett: b. 10 Mar 1885 at Nelson, carpenter.

Notes on the military file:

  • Francis Kinzett may not have actually been a spinster as stated in the file.
  • The GEDcom import gave a marriage place of Akaroa (no sources); however three different sheets in the military file all give the place as Auckland (one of them specifically naming the Registry Office)

Kingston-225 and Kingston-159 appear to represent the same person because: Same person - two wives. His military file names both wives.
