Doctor Charles Henry Knott was born on 27th February 1913 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. He was the eldest son of Charles Knott and Martha Henry. [1] The family settled in Brisbane's north western suburbs, whereupon Charles attended Sunday School and church at the Newmarket-Grange (now just The Grange) Baptist Church.
Charles graduated from the University of Queensland, St Lucia, in Brisbane's west, with a medical degree.
In 1937 in Petersham, New South Wales, Charles married English-born widow, Agatha Dowling née Taylor (1904-70), adopted daughter of Francis Willis Taylor and Mabel Thompson. [2] As well as Agatha's two children, they had a further five children in Cairns, North Queensland, including Charles Knott (1938-2010) and Elizabeth Knott (1943-45).
Charles was commissioned as a medical doctor with the rank of Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) for service during the Second World War. He was allocated to the Brisbane Medical Unit. He was discharged on 25th June 1946. [3] His younger brother, Len, also served as a RAAF medical officer.
Aged 75 years, Charles passed away on 23rd October 1988 in North Queensland [4] and is buried in Forest View Memorial Park, Cairns. [5]
