Biography

Birth and Origins

Francis (Frank) Ernest Langley was a son of Bishop Henry Archdall Langley and Elizabeth Strachan, the tenth of twelve children. He was born 13 Oct 1882 Prahan, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Early Life

Frank Langley was educated at Caulfield Grammar School and Trinity College, University of Melbourne where he earned a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree. After completing university he worked as a medical practitioner. ^[1] Note also ^[2]

Marriage and Family

Frank Langley married Lillie Kate Mills (1876–1967), the daughter of George Peter Mills (1835–1933) and Mary "Minnie" Mills (1848–1913), née Kyte on 25 April 1908 ^[3]

They had children:

• Dorothy Mary (Langley) Hart b. 1909 Armadale, Victoria, Australia. ^[4] m. Ian Hart

• Roy Douglas Langley b. 1915, Armadale, Victoria^[7]

Footballer

Frank Langley was also an Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) 1900-1906 - 89 Games, 61 Goals ^[8] He also played cricket for Dandenong. ^[9]

Death

He died in his home in Dandenong 22 March 1946, survived by his wife Lillie and three children, Dorothy, Eric and Roy. ^[10]

"Dr. Langley is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. lan Hart, and two sons, Dr. Eric Langley (who has just resumed practice at North Bridge, Sydney, after 5 years in the R.A.A.F.) and Mr. Roy Langley, a grazier, of Pakenham." ^[11]
