Biography

He married Elizabeth ___________ by 1676 at Amesbury, Massachusetts.[1] The family still resides in Amesbury, Massachusetts in 1680 according to census substitute records[2][3] and in 1686 by the birth record of son Samuel.

It may be read that Joseph and his wife Elizabeth relocated to Bucks County from Long Island in 1690 settling near Falls township.[4] However, there does not appear to be documentation of them living on Long Island.

He passed away 26 July 1709 at Bucks, Pennsylvania.[5]

Children

Note: until citations are available for all children, this list is presumed to not be in date order since Samuel is noted as 6th son in the Amesbury vital records.

Research Notes

William Large and Rebecca Phippen have been detached as parents and should not be reintroduced. William Large had no children (see Anderson cited on William's profile). There is no documentation anywhere that the wife of William Large was Rebecca Phippen and much to suggest Rebecca Phippen was not married to a William Large. Wife of William Large is only known as "Widow Large" in documents from 1636 and 1641.

It may be read the family moved from Massachusetts, to Long Island, to New Jersey to Pennsylvania. This requires documentation. One source places the marriage on Long Island in 1673 while births of children are recorded in Amesbury thru at least 1686.

Comments regarding the family living in New Jersey appear to originate with the Lundy family genealogy where W.C. Armstrong recounts information on Samuel Large who moved from Burlington County, New Jersey and appears to be the son of an Ebenezer Large. Armstrong does not draw a connection between Joseph and Samuel Large.[13]

Signing Richard Lundy and Elizabeth Large's marriage certificate were Joseph Large, John Large, Jacob Large, Daniel Large and Sarah Large among others. DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:

It looks like Joseph needs to be re-detached from William Large and Rebecca Phippen.

Thanks, Randal. We have a new member making a number of erroneous attachments in this family based on errors first found in Savage. Parents have been detached, again, and I will have the Quakers Project PPP the profile to prevent the error from recurring.

What is the evidence for the father? Anderson in The Great Migration states the person attached here as father died 1636 and there is no evidence he had children.

Large-175 and Large-24 appear to represent the same person because: once fathers are merged these will be two sons of same name, same death, same father
