Peter Looney II is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A071518.
Peter Grancer Looney was born in 1759. He is the son of Peter Grancer Looney and Margaret Lauderdale. He passed away in 1851. He was young when his father, Peter Grancer Looney died, and was raised by his mother and stepfather, a McKain.
As with many other surnames Looney has been written with variations in spelling, most often spelled as Luna or Loony. The correct spelling is Looney.
This Peter Looney, rather than being a Jr. would have been the third by the given name of Peter.
Peter wrote his will on March 25, 1848 in Marshall County, Tennessee.[1]
Research Notes
"Peter Sr. had one infant\ child when he died, he had been captured by Indians held for 3 years, then died soon after his release per book from descendants Ida Campbell and M Hamilton Oh Strange New World"[2]
Location: Edited birth location given in the datafield - was "Augusta now Bolecourt County" (removed "now Bolecourt"). Probably Botetourt County, Virginia was meant.

Book by descendents, Ida Campbell and M. Hamilton " Oh strange new world". Includes will of Robert Sr. and court case: AUGUST, 1764 (B). Looney vs. Looney. "In 1759 Peter Looney and David Looney bought land from their father, Robert Looney. Peter Looney is dead (1763), leaving Peter Looney, an infant, his son and heir, but Robert made a deed to the land to John Bowyer. Robert answers that at time of making the contract he was drunk. (The infant Peter in this story is Peter Grancer Looney Jr.)

Very interesting. So you think Peter H. Looney signed the compact? He would be a great uncle of me. Yes, their are so many Peter Looney's and it gets very confusing.
Looney-842 and Looney-193 appear to represent the same person because: Agreed, all 3 are the same... so wyy not approve the merge rather than setting as unmerged match?
Looney-193 and Looney-842 are ready to be merged because: All 3 appear to be the same the surnames change many times through the years, Luna, Luney and looney are the same
I believe this is not a sibling but the same person, because the name spelling changes many time in the history, books, and records. Peter Sr. had one infant\ child when he died, he had been captured by Indians held for 3 years, then died soon after his release per book from descendants Ida Campbell and M Hamilton "Oh strange new world"
Luna-172 and Looney-193 appear to represent the same person because: Luna-172 was attached to wrong parents, but obviously duplicates. Please merge. Correct LNAB is Looney
edit - or not. Both of their DAR records include Cumberland Settlement residence.
