Charles was born in December 1833 in Thornbury, GLS. Charles was Baptised 9 February 1834 in Thornbury, Sth. Gloucestershire, England. Charles passed away 28 February 1913 at Boconnoc Station, Clare South Australia. This information is being provided by his Great great grandson: Erik James Buttars. Charles and Emma England were married 28 May 1853 in St Mary of Malmesbury, Gloucestershire, UK. Charles and Emma emigrated to South Australia departing from Plymouth in June 1853. They arrived at (Pt Misery) Adelaide, South Australia on 14 November 1853. Not a lot is known about their first two years in South Australia, other than they may have lived and worked the land at Lot 240 Unley Road Unley, Adelaide, South Australia between 1853 and 1858. Two years after their arrival, Samuel Lucas his older brother by two years also arrived in South Australia with his new wife, Hannah. The two brothers appear to have worked together at the above property until Samuel and family moved to Coromandel Valley in the nearby Adelaide foot hills, and later Victoria. About this time Charles and family relocated and settled in the Inkerman, Port Wakefield or Eyres Flat areas in what became known as the 'Mid North', sixty to one-hundred miles north of Adelaide. Charles and Emma had a total of nine children, my great grandfather Samuel James Lucas 1866-1941 was their seventh child. Charles and family stayed in the Mid-North, records show his occupation was that of a shepherd and retired station overseer as the father-in-law of George Brooks, owner of Boconnoc Station, Clare, and Mt Bryan Station north of Burra. Charles died at Boconnoc Station and is buried in the Clare Cemetery.
