Biography
Ann was born about 1834, the daughter of Rev. Charles Richard Mackie M.A. (1798-1882) and Anne Strickland (abt.1800-).
In 1851 she was with her parents in Ringwood, Hampshire, England. [1851 Census].
She married George Chantler Beard in New Zealand in 1853. [1] [2]

On 1 March 1871 at All Saints, Geelong, Victoria, she married James Lawrie Gentles (1843-1872). [4]

George Goodman, James Lawrie Gentles, late of Jedburgh, Scotland, to Anne, widow of George Chantler Beard, B.A., of Riccarton, New Zealand, and daughter of the Rev. Chas. Mackie M.A., late of Avonside, Canterbury, New Zealand. [5]

She passed away at St. Vincent's Hospital in 1900, aged 66. [6]

- GENTLES.—On the 24th December, at St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne, Anne Gentles, late of Canterbury-road, Surrey Hills, and formerly of Christchurch, New Zealand, aged 66. [7]
She was buried in Boroondara Cemetery, Kew, on 26 December 1900, in C/E Section A, Grave 1376. [8] Her son James joined her in 1906. [9]
