Biography
James (Mains) Main was born in Scotland.
James was born James Taylor Mains on the 6th of September, 1853, and baptised on the 20th of September, 1853, at Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom,the 6th of 10 children of William Mains and Agnes MacFarlane.[1][2]
At 2, on the 20th of September, 1855, his sister Helen was born, in Bairns Land, Bay Street, Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom.[3]
At 3, on the 10th of August, 1857, his sister Ann was born, in Bairns Land, Bay Street, Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom.[4]
At 6, on the 6th of August, 1860, his sister Williamina was born, in Bairns Land, Bay Street, Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom.[5]
At 7, in 1861, he was a scholar at Bay Street, Port Glasgow, living with his parents and siblings and a boy named John Blackley.[6]
At 8, on the 6th of August, 1862, his brother Thomas was born, but died as an infant, in Bairns Land, Bay Street, Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom.[7]

At about 20, and about 1873, he attended university, gaining a M.A. and studied for and entered the Presbyterian Ministry.[2]
At 26, on the 13th of August, 1880, he arrived at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, having left Greenock, on the ship Loch Vennachar.[9]
Before age 33, and prior to 1886, he moved to New South Wales, Australia.[2]
At 32, in 1886, he married Isabel Frances Pateman in Young, New South Wales, Australia, and they had 4 children.[10]

At 38, in 1891, he and Isabel were living at Maitland, New South Wales, Australia.[11]

AT 44, in 1897, he became minister of St Andrews Presbyterian Church in Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia.[12]

At 49, on the 15th of June, 1903, his sister Agnes died, in Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia, at 59.[citation needed]
At 51, on 26 March 1904, while minister of St Andrews Presbyterian Church at Dubbo, he "Died during tenure of office as moderator of the State General Assembly of NSW", Richmond, Hawkesbury City, New South Wales, and was buried at the Old Dubbo Cemetery, New South Wales, Australia.[2][13][14][15]
