Biography
Anna was born 31 May 1852 in Steinhagen, Mecklenburg, Germany to parents Johann John Henry Augustus Manzelmann and Anna Sophia Luise Engel.[1][2]
On 23 May 1867, Anna and her family arrived in New York City, New York traveling from Hamburg, Germany aboard the ship, "Eugenie." Listed as passengers are her parents, "Joh" and Anna and siblings: Sophie, Carl, Maria, and Jouchen.[3] Anna was 14 years old.
Two years later at age 16, Anna married Nicholas Valentine Hoehamer on 4 Jan 1869 in Auglaize county, Ohio. [4]
Nicholas and Anna were living next door to Nicholas's parents in Moulton, Auglaize, Ohio in the 1870 US Census. Their last name was written as "Hoechanina".[5]
Nicholas and Anna had five children born in Auglaize County, Ohio:
- Henry August Hoehamer born 18 Jan 1872
- George Johann Hoehamer born 20 Sep 1872
- Jacob William Hoehamer, born 1874
- William Andrew Hoehamer, born 8 Mar 1875.
In Oct 1875, their son Henry August died in Adams County, Indiana. Another child was born in Adams County:
- Barbara Sophia Hoehamer, born 30 Aug 1877
In the 1880 US Census, Nicholas and Anna were living in Adams County, Indiana. Nicholas was a farmer. Also in the family were their children: George, Jacob, William and Barbara. [6]
Nicholas and Anna had another son:
- John Christian Hoehamer, born 10 Sep 1880
Anna died two months later on 4 Nov 1880 in Adams County, Indiana. She was only 28 years old. She was buried in Willard Cemetery, Berne, Adams county, Indiana[7]
