Biography

Hermann Freiderich Heinrich Theodor Manzelmann was born 22 Feb 1844 In Steinhagen, Mecklenburg, Prussia/Germany. He was the son of John Manzelmann and Anna Engel. [1]

Hermann came to America with his sister, Charlotte, departing Hamburg Germany 16 Oct 1866 aboard the "Doctor Barth." Herman is listed as being a laborer: "knecht" [2]

In the 1870 US Census, Hermann was living with his parents and siblings in Moulton, Auglaize, Ohio. Hermann was a laborer. His family included: parents John and Anna and siblings: Charles, Mary and "Joseph" John. The family surname is misspelled as "Meuselman."[3]

On 3 March 1871, Herman married Catharine Ochs in Auglaize county, Ohio.[4] Herman and Catharine had three children in Moulton, Auglaize county, Ohio:

  • Charles Manzelmann, born 14 Feb 1872
  • Herman Manzelmann II, 1875-1875 twin
  • Catharine Manzelmann, 1875-1875 twin

Hermann's wife, Catharine, died a month later on 16 Oct 1875.

The following year, 13 July 1876, Hermann married Rosena Schlagel. [5] Hermann and Rosena had a son:

  • Lawrence Manzelmann, born 25 June 1877.

In the 1880 US Census, Herman And Rosena were living with the two boys, Charles and Lawrence, in Moulton, Auglaize Co., Ohio. Hermann was a farmer. [6]

Hermann's father, John, died 18 May 1881.

Hermann and Rosena had another son:

  • George H Manzelmann, 1886-1944

Hermann's mother, Anna, died 17 June 1891.

In the 1900 US Census, Hermann and Rosena were living with sons Lawrence and George in Auglaize county, Ohio.[7]

Hermann died 16 August 1908 and was buried in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Wapakoneta, Auglaize county, Ohio. He was 64 years old.[8]
