Biography

Pleasant Martin was born December 21, 1756, in the Virginia Colony, to Thomas Martin and Anne Moorman. He married 1778 Albemarle Co Va Rebecca Joplin born 1759 died 1798. Notable children of this Pleasant Martin are Elizabeth “Betsy” Martin Powell and Rebecca Martin Jopling. This Revolutionary War soldier, Pleasant Martin applied for his pension in Wilson County, Tennessee. He died in 1836 in Wilson, Tennessee.

He married Rebecca Louise Jopling on October 2, 1775, in the Amherst District, Virginia. [1]

He served as a private on the Virginia Line during the Revolutionary War, earning a pension of $95.66 a year (over $3,000 in 2022) beginning in 1835. [2] Various stories, poorly sourced, say he may have risen to Lieutenant or Captain.

He died on October 16, 1836, in Wilson, Tennessee, having lived a long life of 79 years.
