Biography

Samuel was born about 1779 in what was then still Bedford County (later Campbell, and finally Appomattox) to Robert Martin , Jr. and Mary (Thompson) Martin. His father died when he was about two years old (youngest child), and left all of his land to him. However, very little remained by the time he became an adult. He first married Eleanor Wilson, and they had eight children before she passed away In 1818. Then he married Catherine Rattekin, and they raised seven children. He passed away in Appomattox County in 1859.
