Biography

Hannah Hopkins was born on 08 January 1681/2 in Hingham, Massachusetts Bay Colony, the daughter of John and Hannah (Freeman) Mayo.[1]

Judah Hopkins married twice, both times to women with the same name, and the women were first cousins. First was on 14 April 1702 in Eastham to Hannah Mayo, the daughter of Samuel and Ruth (Hopkins?) Mayo, born probably in Eastham.[1] Her father's will dated 09 April 1734 mentions heirs of daughter Hannah Hopkins deceased.[1] Her birth date is not known.

His first wife died in Harwich on 05 July 1719.[2]

Judah married, secondly on 12 May 1720 in Harwich, this Hannah Mayo, the daughter of John and Hannah (Freeman) Mayo.[1] She was named in her mother's will, dated 15 January 1740 as Hannah Hopkins. She died probably in Harwich after 20 January 1747.[1]

Judah died in Harwich on 07 January 1748.[1]

Judah and Hannah (Mayo) Hopkins had the following (1) child:[1][3]

  1. Samuel, b. 14 Mar 1720/21; not named in his father's will

Research Notes

From page 104 of the book Rev John Mayo and his Descendants[4] Hannah Mayo (John4, Samuel3, John2, John1) was born on January 8, 1681/82 in Hingham, Plymouth Colony. She married Judah Hopkins on May 12, 1720 in Harwich, Barnstable County, Province of Massachusetts Bay. She died after 1748.

Judah Hopkins was first married to Hannah's cousin, also named Hannah Mayo and according to the above book both Hannah's were born on the same day. The book also expresses some concern over the validity of those birth dates. Occasionally, there are suggestions to merge these two Hannah's; however, unless some additional information comes to light, we will leave them as separate individuals.
