Biography
Charles J. McGilvary was born on 01 May 1851 in Bunker Hill, Macoupin Co., Illinois, the son of Willis McGilvary and Permelia Sutton. He had three siblings who died in infancy. When he was 25, he married Mary E. Mayberry on 26 Dec 1876 in Montgomery County, Illinois. Mary died in 1889. They had o children. When he was 46, he married Ida Elizabeth May, daughter of Martin VanBuren May and Margaret Hutchinson, on 24 Nov 1897 in Bond Co., Illinois. Charles and Ida had the following children: Amelia, Roland, Charles Loyd," Estella "May," Dolly, Ida Roberta and Wilma Ruth McGilvary.
Charles lived in Bond, Illinois in 1860. He lived in McCord, Bond, Illinois, United States in 1870. He was not located in the census in 1880. He lived in Shoal Creek, Bond, Illinois in 1900 (Marital Status: Married; Relation to Head of House: Head).
