Biography

Rachel and John Ross were the parents of Mary ^[1]; Donald, born in Valleyfield ^[2] ; Lachlan Ross, born 1851 ^[3]; John Ross, born 1843 ^[4]; Alexander, born 1855 ^[5] John's will also named two additional daughters, Flora and Christy.

After the death of her husband, Rachel was living with her son Donald, in Valleyfield.^[6] Unmarried children at home were Lauchlen, 30; the younger son John, the tailor, age 22; Flora, 25; and Christy, 19.

Her daughter Flora died in 1889 at age 32. ^{[7] [8]}

Rachel was age 91 in 1911.^[9]

Mrs Rachel Ross, widow of the late John Ross, an old and respected citizen of Valleyfield, passed away on Sunday morning the 19th November at the ripe old age of 92 years. She came to this settlement in the year 1841 from the Isle of Skye, Scotland. The funeral will take place today November 21st from her son's residence to the Valleyfield Cemetery. ^[10]

Rachel's will, signed in 1896, was not filed until 1915. She named her eldest son John, Lachlan, Mary, son John (Tailor), and Donald. John and Alex Ross were witnesses. ^[11]

John, the tailor died in 1916. When Donald Ross died in 1923 at age 75, he was survived by his wife and children; also two brothers, John and Lauchlin of Surrey, PEI, and one sister Mrs Sam McPherson (Mary) of Bellevue. ^[12]
