Biography

Robert William, born on July 24th 1836, was baptised by his parents William Merrick and Ellen (Hughes) at the Wesleyan Methodist church in Stourport on August 10th 1836^[1][2]

In 1841, 4 year old Robert is living with his parents in High Street, Lower Mitton^[3].

In 1851, 14 year old Robert is living with his parents in High Street, Lower Mitton^[4]. He is working as a boot and shoe maker.

20 year old Robert William Merrick, son of William Merrick married 24 year old Selina Hambling, daughter of John Hambling on September 23rd 1856 in Kings Areley, Worcestershire^[5]

In 1861, 24 year old Robert is living in Wolverhampton with his wife and children^[6]. He is working as a timber clerk.

In 1871, 34 year old Robert is living in a cottage in the timber yard, Meadow Street, Bristol^[7]. He is working as a commercial clerk.

In 1881, 44 year old Robert is living in the St. Pauls area of Bristol with his family^[8]. He is now a timber merchant.

In 1891, 53 year old Robert is living in York House, Upper York Street Bristol with his family^[9]. He is a timber merchant.

Research Notes

The 1911 census says that Robert has had 4 children, all of whom are living. This seems to omit William B who only appears in the 1861 census.
