Biography

Joseph Merrill was born Plaistow, New Hampshire, 4 September 1764.^[1] He died, probably Plymouth, New Hampshire, 9 March 1767. Joseph was the son of Stevens Merrill and his wife, Sarah Chase.^[2]

Joseph Merrill married in Warren, New Hampshire, 31 July 1781, Sally Copp.^[3][4]

This couple lived in Warren, New Hampshire. Later in life, Joseph lived with his son, Anson Merrill, in Plymouth, New Hampshire.^[5]

Research Notes

Little's A History of Warren ... In his overview of Joseph Merrill's family, Samuel Merrill (A Merrill Memorial ..., 1917-1928) writes, "William Little (1833-1893), son of Dr. Jesse and Susan-Copp (Merrill) Little of Warren, was a lawyer in Manchester, N. H. His excellent but unconventional History of Warren is freely quoted at pages 130-134 of this work." Merrill further identifies William Little's mother, Susan-Copp (Merrill) Little, as a daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Copp) Merrill.
