  • 1810 U.S. Census: Stephen Hale lived in Somerset, Pulaski County, Kentucky, with one male aged 10-16, (John Moody, 10, or Thomas, 12), one male aged 17-26 (?), and one male aged 27-45 (Stephen, 35), two females under 10 (Sarah, 1; Rebecca, 3; and/or Cynthia, 4), one female 26-45 (wife Mary, 30), and five "blacks" (slaves). Page 32. Only Stephen Hale on census, but not sure this is the right one. [1]
  • 1820 U.S. Census: Stephen Hale lived in Somerset, Pulaski, Kentucky with four males under age 10 (William, 2; Isaac. 6; Laban, 8: and Stephen Meadows, 10), one male 10-16 (Russell, 16), one male 26-45 (Stephen, 45), one female under 10 (Polly, 4), one female 10-16 (Sarah, 11; Rebecca, 13; or Cynthia, 14), one female 26-45 (Mary, 40).   • 1830 U.S. Census: Stephen Hail Sr. (Stephen's father had died in 1815, and son Stephen married and was head of household on this same census, hence this Stephen has taken the suffix "Sr.") Volume 9=Pulaski County. He had one male under 5 years of age (?), one male 5-10 years (?), one male 10-15 (William, 12), two males 15-20 (Isaac, 16 and Laban, 18), one male 20-30 (Russell, 26 or Christopher, 28), one male 50-60 (Stephen, 55), one female under 5 (Nancy, 3), one female 10-15 (Polly, 14), one female 40-50 (wife, Mary, 50).   • 1830: Son Stephen Meadows Hail married Pamelia Smith on February 8, 1830 with consent of father, Stephen Hail. "Bride stated she had neither parent or guardian & requested that license be issued." Witness was Bennet Hail. [4]
  • 1831: Son Laban Hail married Elziray Lewis, April 11, 1831, with Consent of fathers, Stephen Hail and John Lewis. Witness was James Silvers[5]
  • 1831: Son Christopher Hail married Elliner Neal, June 11, 1831. Witness was George Dungan.[6]
  • 1831: Son John M. Hail married Charity Heath, October 24, 1831. Witness was Philip Heath. [7]
  • 1835: Daughter Polly Hail married Thomas Silvers on April 13, 1835, with consent of father, Stephen Hail. Witness was brother Isaac S. Hail [8]
  • 1840 U.S. Census: Stephen Hail, age 65, lived in Jackson Township, Macon County, Missouri with one male age 10-15 (?), one male 15-20 (?), one male 20-30 (Isaac, 26, or William, 22), one male 60-70 (Stephen, 65), one female 10-15 (Nancy, 13), one female 50-60 (Mary, 60) [9]

Research Notes

  • 1810 Census: Page 32. Only Stephen Hale on entire 38 page census, but not sure this is the right Stephen Hale. No mention of 2 younger sons, Christopher, 8, and Russell, 6.
  • 1820 Census: Christopher, 18, not mentioned, did not marry until 1831.
  • 1830 Census: Who were the two males under 10? We know Christopher live until 1879, but perhaps Russell was deceased by this census.
  • 1840 Census: Who were the two males under 20?
  • No death record found.
