The last record for her is the 1870 census in Blount County, Alabama which was done in July.
Research Notes
By the 1850 census, supposed children Elisha and Elizabeth are already married and, in fact, are living side by side in homes no. 145 and 146 in the 17th subdivision of Blount County while Wm and Sarah are in 107, with many other Nelsons nearby. So it is believable that E & E do belong to them, but with other Nelsons of a similar age to Wm, other potential couples will need to be ruled out.
Need source for death. Date is apparently coming from the Blount County Heritage Book which states Morton was the maiden name of William Nelson's wife, and that "Sarah Morton, born 1804, Greenville Dist, SC, died 13 Sept 1870 either in Alabama or Indian Territory. (Husband was William Nelson, son of Edward Nelson of the Cherokee Nation.)" Where the writer got their information is still not known. If William Nelson was born in South Carolina, he would have had to have been from the old Cherokee Nation of the east, not Indian Territory. Since Sarah was still living in Alabama when the 1870 census was taken, it is unlikely she moved to Indian Territory a couple of months later. Proof of 1870 DOD still has not been found.
