Biography

Origin

Per Robert C. Anderson, "John Northend and Elizabeth Coole married 13 April 1605 at Rowley [East Riding, Yorkshire, England]. Children of Mr [John] Northend of Rippingham [Rowley, East Riding, Yorkshire, England] baptized there: Margaret (30 March 1620), Ezekiel (10 February 1621/2)[1], and Joan (6 June 1624). ... Ezekiel's baptism is compatible with this depositions in Massachusetts as to his age [EQC 2:397, 3:30, 426, 5:17]. He had emigrated by 1648 when he married Edna [blank] in Rowley [RowVR 1:356], widow of Richard Bayley (brother of James Bayley), apparently born Edna Halstead, as her son Joseph refers to money from his "unckle" William Halsted [EPR 1:93-94]. [2]

It is believed that Ezekiel was named in honour of Ezekiel Rogers, an incumbent clergyman at Rowley Parish at the time of his birth. [3]

Ezekiel Northend was born 1621/2 in Ripplingham (now Riplingham), East Riding of Yorkshire, England, the son of Mr. John Northend and Elizabeth Coole.[1]

February 10, 1621/2 -- Ezekiel Northend was baptized at St Peter, Rowley, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. [1][4]

December 1638 -- Ezekiel Northend, then a minor, arrived at Massachusetts Bay Colony on the ship "John of London" along with a group led by Rev. Ezekiel Rogers of Rowley, East Riding, Yorkshire, England. [5]

Spring 1639 -- Ezekiel Rogers and other Yorkshire families founded Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony. [6]

10th Month (December) 1, 1648 -- Ezekiell {sic} Northend and Edna {sic} [Halsted], widow of Richard Bailey, married at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony. [4] [7]

Ezekiel was a prominent man in town and was selectman in 1662, 1669, and 1691. By 1677, Ezekial owned four freeholds; and by 1691, his was the highest tax paid in Rowley (10 pounds).

Ezekiel Northend’s sister Margaret became the wife of John Palmer, who also came to Rowley, Massachusetts. In his will of August 23, 1693 and proved in 1695, John Palmer appointed his "brother Northend" one of the overseers of its execution.

February 1698 -- date of Ezekiel Northend's will which mentioned wife Edna; Ezekial, his only son; and daughters Edna Sticknee; Elisabeth Gage; and Sarah Hale.

September 7, 1698 -- Ezekiel Northend died at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony. [8] [4] [9]

I see, or think I see, an Ezekiel Northend, aged 29, traveling with a Jeremiah Northend, no age given, on the John Of London, arriving 1638. With the esteemed Ezekiel Rogers. Thoughts?
