The estimated birth date of 1695 is based on birth date of his son. He passed away about 1773.
Research Notes
Ancestry. "127. The O’Briens of Bansha, Co. Tipp. are paternally O’Briens of the family of MacBrien Gonagh (Ui Cuanach). They acquired the Bansha estate through the marriage of Morgan O’Brien of Ballyphilip, Co. Limerick, with Catherine, dau. and co-heir of Capt. Edward Butler of Bansha, a descendant of Piers fitzThomas, natural s. of Thos., 10th Earl of Ormonde." [1]
Will. Genealogical abstract of the Will of William O'Brien of Bansha, Tipperary [2]
308. William O’Brien Butler of Bansha, Tipperary. Date: 5th Mar., 1773. Probate: July 22nd, 1774.
Dubious family members. The notion that immigrating brothers, Thomas and Joseph Butler, were sons of William O'Brien Butler was published 1909 in the work by William David Butler, The Butler Family in America.[4]
"Thomas Butler, born Dublin 1720, settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 1748, grandson of Edmond Butler 8th Baronet Dunboyne ... Son of Catherine and Wm. O'Brien Butler, as her brothers died without descent."
Any number of questions and/or challenges exist regarding the parentage attributed to Thomas and Joseph. By his further association, thus also to James Butler, reported brother of Thomas and Joseph.
Prior Version. A prior version of this profile included the notion that he had immigrated to American, arriving Virginia, 1717, citing U.S. and Canada, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s-1900s Ancestry.com Place: Virginia; Year: 1717; Page Number: 199. Such notion confuses this Willliam O'Brien Butler with another man.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships.
It is likely that these
autosomal DNA
test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
William's correct LNAB is "O'Brien Butler", not "O'Brien". "O'Brien" was his father's LNAB. His father Morgan O'Brien (abt.1670-) adopted the combined surname "O'Brien Butler" after his marriage to the heiress of Butlers of Bansha.
I'm at work right now ... but have found some information on the death at Culpepper, Va in 1757. Too many to quickly summarize without more time. Will replace this comment and write more later.--GeneJ
"I am afraid there is only mystery surrounding this man and his reported appearance in Culpeper County. As you probably already know, there is no documentation for this name in Culpeper, and the Butler who is documented as having died in 1757 is recorded as a John Butler with a wife Susannah."
Though unsourced and poorly identified, the Butler man who died at Culpeper (now Butler-1050) was a real person who is not the same person as William (O'Brien) O'Brien Butler (abt.1695-abt.1773)/now O'Brien-12845.
The parentage of Butler-1050 is either unknown or unproven.
Rather than merge away Butler-1050 (died at Culpeper ... son(s) of Culpeper), I'm proposing we should sever his improper link to parents, and follow the guidance on disambiguation ("Easily Confused")--see the G2G and related Help page.
Separately, I've added the Culpeper issue to the free space page, Some Butler Research Notes, but will probably move those notes to a dedicated free space page if we have consensus that Butler-1050 is not the same person as now O'Brien-12845.
This merge has been previously proposed and rejected, hasn't it?
On multiple occasions, I have seen a Virginia death location associated with the name William Obrien-Butler, so are there indeed TWO men, and then WHO was the William Obrien Butler who died in Culpeper County, Virginia in 1757. WHY is he so frequently confused with the man we believe died at Ireland.
I am aware of a c1909 genealogy that associated brothers James, Thomas and Joseph as the sons of this William, but that work does not make any reference to a sister, Sarah Butler (1749-).
What have I overlooked about Sarah? Perhaps she was mistaken for the reference to James' daughter Sarah?
Information associating the three brothers, born 1718-1728 is found in William David Butler, John Cromwell Butler and Joseph Marion Butler, The Butler Family in America (St. Louis, Mo., Shallcross Printing Co., [1909]), 6 and 16-17; digital images, FamilySearch (p. 6) and FamilySearch (p. 16-17), viewed as FSL film 1401442, digital collection 8923197, image 11 and 17 of 168.
I plan to implement this proposed change--will sever the association of Sarah, born 1749, as the sister of James (b. 1718), Thomas (b. 1720) and Joseph (b. 1728), and reconnect her as the daughter of James.
If others later find information that would conflict with that move, please post so that we might further collaborate. --GeneJ
Butler-1050 and Butler-876 do not represent the same person because: I see nothing, other than name, that is reason to think these are the same. In fact, descendants are different, so they should be kept separate... unless definitive information is developed to show they are the same. No harm in keeping separate. I'm fairly confident the William O. Butler in my line did not come to, and die in, America... ;-)

"William O'Brien Butler b. 1695 in Bansagh Co. Tipperary, was the son of Morgan (Murrough) O'Brien and Eleanor Butler"
Edited to Add: Morgan O'Brien (abt.1670-) and Eleanor Butler (abt.1670-) ... and dear Eleanor is daughter of Edward Butler (abt.1640-) and Catherine Butler (abt.1640-), writing, "Catherine Butler was the daughter of Edmond Butler the 8th Baron Dunboyne" ... something is amiss OR we have conflated some Butlers. Lordy, Lordy.

I have posted the following as a comment on the profile of William Butler (1695-1757), as below:
Edited to Add: Should we set this as a unmerged matched while the issue of which William died at Virginia is resolved?

FYI: The three brothers' parents have all been marked as uncertain.

John William O Brien may be the father of William O'Brien A generation earlier?
If you need help with it , let me know .
