Elizabeth Page was born on 26 Mar 1766 in Goochland County, Virginia the daughter of James Page and Mary (England) Page.[1][2] She was christened on 29 Jun 1766 at Goochland County, Virginia.
She married Thomas Moreland on 29 Apr 1797 in Goochland County, Virginia, as his second wife.[1] He had at least two young children by his first wife.
By 1800 Thomas Moreland had moved to Carter County, Tennessee,[3] where the family lived for a number of years. About 1827, they moved to Monroe County, Tennessee.[4]
The 1830 census for Monroe County shows one male and one female aged 70-79 years of age.[5] This age of the female does not match that of Elizabeth Page, so perhaps she died and he had remarried an older woman.
The woman on the 1830 census died probably before her husband, as she did not apply for a continuation of his Revolutionary War pension as his widow, as was her right if she was living.[6]
The IGI showed Elizabeth with a son, Joseph, and Thomas and Sarah with four children, William, Thomas, Pleasant and John. Dan Page's book does not show Elizabeth having any children. He also excludes from her step-children Thomas and John, and states the reason is the discrepancy in estimated ages for them.
She would have been considered a spinster when she married Thomas Moreland. Probably his first wife died well before 1797, as it would have been considered very inappropriate for him to remarry that quickly in the settled country around Goochland.[6]
Her father, James Page's, land was divided into four parts. Either Elizabeth or her brother James Page (born 10 Sep 1774) would have inherited the fourth part of the land shared by Anderson Page, Mary (Page) Hancock and [Page-424|William Page]], her siblings. Descendants of the brother James (born 1774) have not been located. Deed records in Goochland Co., Virginia were checked through 1832 without finding the fourth heir. Perhaps a later Moreland deed might be found, or a quiet title suit many years later would account for the fourth portion of the estate. Probably Elizabeth died before the land settlement, which probably waited until the death of their mother, Mary (England) Page. Sales of the inherited land began in 1807; therefore their mother, Mary, was probably deceased by then.
