James Nelson Page, born 10 Jan 1781 probably in Caswell County, North Carolina, was the son of Robert Page Sr. and his wife Rachel Brockman.
He was married about 1798 in South Carolina to Rachel Smith. They were the parents of:
Mary Margaret Page (2 Jun 1806-?)
William S Page (11 Mar 1809-?)
Robert B "Robin" Page (20 Jan 1811-17 Oct 1791), married 28 Sep 1837 to Rebecca Castlebury or Castleberry
Joseph Page, twin (25 Mar 1813-17 Mar 1846)
Benjamin F Page, twin (25 Mar 1813-22 Nov 1895), married first Elizabeth Kelly; married second Mary Jane Pace or Pack
Catherine Page (12 Oct 1816-24 Apr 1884)
Celia Page (20 Jan 1819-?), married Samuel Smith
Martha Page (15 Sep 1820-4 Jan 1889)
Rachel Smith and her sisters, her twin Elizabeth, and Ann, married brothers. Elizabeth married Robert Page Jr., and Ann married William Page.[1]
He served in the War of 1812, and received a grant of 40 acres based on that service.[2]
He passed away 15 Dec 1856 in Spartanburg District, South Carolina, and was buried in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Woodruff, Spartanburg District, South Carolina.[1]
Research Notes
The original entry for James Nelson Page gave him a daughter named Mary Bennett, who married John F Page. James Nelson Page had a daughter named Mary Margaret Page born 2 Jun 1806. He was married about 1798 to Rachel Smith, but Mary Bennett is not named as a child of Rachel Smith. Is the implication that he had an illegitimate daughter named Mary Bennett? Was she an adopted child? How else could her surname be Bennett? I have ignored this child, as I have no information about her. Time from his marriage to Mary Margaret would allow another child, about 1804, but doesn't provide a reason for a maiden name of Bennett.
