Biography

Carson is buried in the Springhill Cemetery , this Cemetery has been highly damaged I found and photographed his stone lying down and covered with grass. His wife Cassa's stone is an Obelisk and wasn't damaged.

Carson Patterson, Will I, Carson Patterson do make and publish this as my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other wills made by me at any time. First, I direct that my funeral expenses and all my debts be paid as soon after my death as possible out of any money that I may die possessed of or may first come into the hands of my executor. Secondly, I will and bequeath to my daughter, Margaret Taylor, dec'd,two sons, John C. Taylor and James B. Taylor, one thousand dollars. Thirdly, I will and bequeath unto my son, Thomas C. Patterson, one thousand dollars to be taken out of a note that I hold against him, and the remainder of said note and interest to be paid unto my estate. Fourthly, I will and bequeath unto my daughter, Mary J. Kellow and her bodily heirs, fifty acres of land. Begining at the S.E. of grant NO.11690, containing 236 acres, running north with east line ___poles to S.Kellow's S.W. corner, thence west __poles, thence south ___poles t o ? line, thence east with said line to the begining so as to contain fifty acres. I also wil l and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth A. McCaleb and her bodily heirs the tract of land she now lives on and bounded on the west by Thomas C. Patterson, on the south by J. C. Taylor. Containing fifty five acres and 140 poles, she is to have this land free of rent during her widowhood, but if she marries the McCaleb children is to take charge of the same until my wife's death at which time they shall pay back into by estate two thousand dollars. I do will that my wife, Cassa Patterson, shall have one horse and buggy and such bedding etc that she wants, and also enough of means out of my estate to amply support her as long as she lives and also to pay to have her waited on well as long as she lives and at her death my property and also my wifes property shall be divided as my will directs. I also want my executor to make a sale at my death and sell all my property except what my wife retains shall not be offered for sale, and I also want him to rent out my farm except the houses and land that my wife retains if she wishes, privately if he can and prefer that he rent to one of the heirs if he can, and to have the fences kept up and repaired when necessary , and I also want him to have one field kept in clover. I also will that George Patterson (col) shall have one horse, bridle and saddle, provided he stay with my wife until he is twenty years of age and that Tom Patterson (col) have one bridle and saddle and the sorrel filly colt that he now claims provided that he stay with my wife until he is twenty years of age, and I also will that Hannah Ann Patterson (col) have one feather bed and bedstead, one cow and calf, provided she stays with my wife until she is twenty years of age. I further more will and bequeath that the residual of my estate be equally divided between m y sons, R.B. Patterson, Jas. B. Patterson, C.J. Patterson and E.J. Patterson, and my daughter , Nancy C. Arnold. And I do appoint my sons R.B. Patterson, J.B. Patterson, C.J. Patterson and E.J.Patterson commissioners to direct my land. And I hereby authorize and impower my executor to sell, transfer and convey and make deed to any or all of the partnership lands that belong to Arnold and Patterson and lastly I do hereby name and appoint my son E.J. Patterson my executor of my last will and testament, to which I subscribe my name and affix my seal this the eighteenth day of June A.D. One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy Three. Carson Patterson B.O. Carlton W.B. Taylor P.J. Carlton It is believed that the George, Tom and Hannah Ann Patterson mentioned in the will are illegitimate children of Carson and a former slave
